Fruit

From Trail-Finder -- Dedicated to getting you outside

Fruit is great for outdoor activity. It's healthy, contains energy-producing carbs, and lots of vitamins perfect for keeping you going. Unfortunately, most fresh fruit doesn't travel well for long with the rough treatment bouncing around in a pack. Besides, it's bulky and heavy. Fortunately, fresh fruit isn't your only option. Dried fruit is easy to find, lasts for weeks in a simple, zip-top bag, and is light and virtually indestructible.

Some fruits do travel well, though. Apples and pears, for example, can stand up pretty well to outdoor life, although they will get a bit bruised. Due to their weight, though, they're not really ideal for multi-day trips.
