Hiking Michigan

From Trail-Finder -- Dedicated to getting you outside

Overview

Created in the winter of 1998, Hiking Michigan and offers weekly hikes in southeast Michigan, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. In addition to weekly hikes, Hiking Michigan also participates in educational Programs and special outdoor experiences. The organization also produces books and maps and has helped to organize a number of Friends Groups for Michigan's state parks.

Maps produced by Hiking Michigan are unique. Designed to be easy to read for non-hikers, major features are shown graphically, so a bridge looks like a bridge, a bunch of trees looks like a bunch of trees.

Current projects involve the restoration and mapping of the Big Loop Trail in Ortonville State Recreation Area, combining a large number of smaller trails together into a single trail, circumnavigating the entire park.

Hiking Michigan primary goal is to get EVERYONE outdoors. No matter what the age or where you come from. With over 1,000 members as of 2009, the group continues to grow, due to the open camaraderie of it's members toward one another. There are no elitists in the organization, just people willing to share their outdoor knowledge with all others. That's what makes this organization different from all the rest. Besides the fact that all of what they offer is FREE.
