Overview
Maybury State Park is a small, densely packed park completely surrounded by heavily developed suburbs. Located at the corner of 8-Mile Road and Beck Road in Northville, MI, accessible from I-96 (south from Beck Road exit), M-14 (north from Beck Road exit) or I-275 (west from 8-Mile Road exit), the park is located on the former grounds of the Maybury Sanatorium, a medical facility set up to handle the worst cases of tuberculosis from the metro-Detroit area. Although there's still a few traces of the old buildings, the park has been allowed to revert to a wild state.
Activities
The park has hiking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, and horseback riding trails, in addition to an ADA-compliant walking/in-line skating/biking trail. Interpretive signs throughout the park describe the park history with pictures of former buildings. The foundations of a few buildings remain, and are open to exploration.
Trails
Since the park is so small, less than 1000 acres, the sheer volume of trails dictates that the trails be very twisty and interconnected.
- Horses are only allowed on designated horse trails. Read horses and humans for safety.
- Mountain bikes are allowed only on designated mountain bike trails, and the paved trails.
- Hikers are allowed on all trails, but are discouraged from using the mountain biking trail if there's heavy biking traffic.
Trails
- Equestrian trail: 11 miles - horses and hikers only
- Cross country ski trail: 10 miles - Skiers and hikers only
- Hiking trail: 6 miles - hikers only
- Mountain biking trail: 5 miles - Mountain bikers and hikers only - hikers should avoid this trail if there's a lot of mountain biking traffic
- ADA-compliant hiking/biking/in-line skating trail: 4 miles - Everyone except horses

Fees
A Michigan State Park permit is required. Annual permits, as of 2008, cost $24 and are available from any ranger. Daily permits are $6. Both are good in any Michigan State Park. If you don't find a ranger, your car may be ticketed, but the cost of the ticket is the same as the cost of a permit, daily or annual, your choice, with annuals mailed to you.
