Overview

Sterling State Park is located in the extreme southeast corner of Michigan, on Lake Erie, at 41°44′55″ N 83°20′0″ W. The park is just east of Monroe, at the mouth of the River Raisin.

Activities

The park is primarily a beach and campground, however there is also a hiking/cross country skiing trail, and, being on Lake Erie, of course, sea kayaking is also available.

Trails

The 6-mile Sterling Marsh Trail (official map) includes a 2.9 mile interpretative trail, plus short trail segments connecting camping areas, beach, etc. Trails are ADA-compliant.

Fees

A Michigan State Park permit is required. Annual permits, as of 2008, cost $24 and are available from any ranger. Daily permits are $6. Both are good in any Michigan State Park. If you don't find a ranger, your car may be ticketed, but the cost of the ticket is the same as the cost of a permit, daily or annual, your choice, with annuals mailed to you.
